Observatory Night

When?
7:30 PM on Monday, October 14th

Where?
Missouri S&T Observatory

What?
Everyone is invited to join the Mars Rover Design Team, the Rocket Design Team, and the Satellite Research Team to kick off Space Week by looking at the stars! With help from STARS and weather permitting the observatory will be open for a chance to look at the sky through the S&T observatory telescope.

What?
Mars Rover Design Team, Rocket Design Team, and Satellite Research Team Alumni who work in the space industry will be available via Microsoft Teams to give advice and answer career questions. This event is open to all students; you don’t need to be on one of the design teams to attend.

Speaker Night – Dr. Benison

What?
As part of Space Week, an interactive talk will explore the role of a return sample scientist on the Mars 2020 mission, highlighting mission operations and recent discoveries, including potential biosignatures. The presentation will also discuss biosignature research in Earth-analog salt minerals, anticipating future Mars salt samples returning to Earth.

As part of Space Week, an educational and interactive talk will feature cutting-edge research on detecting gravitational waves through LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory). This presentation will explore the science behind gravitational wave detection and its implications for understanding the universe.

What?
Compete against your friends (and rivals) to see who knows the most space facts! Groups of four to five will go head-to-head to see who can correctly answer the most space themed trivia questions.

Tour of the Planets

When?
10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, October 19th

Where?
Innovation Lab Lobby

What?
Go on an educational and interactive Tour of the Planets in our solar system! Each planet will have a table, run by our team members, with facts, pictures, and a fun activity! This event is aimed at kids aged 5-13 and their parents, but all ages are welcome to come and enjoy learning about the planets.

Attendees are welcome to arrive (and leave 🙁) any time during the events scheduled time. University parking lots are not enforced on the weekends, so you can park without a permit. Event staff will be available to help guide attendees to the event location if needed. If you’d like to know more about university parking rules, please refer to the attached parking rules.
